"Rockwell WAS a great place to work... things change."

What do you like about working at Rockwell Collins?

"The work is exciting. I am working on cutting edge products. I always have the ability to see my product through from concept to installation. We even have troops come to visit and tell us how well our product works."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Look and speak professionally. Graduate from a well known engineering school."

What don't you like about working at Rockwell Collins?

"Not a friendly place to work. If you fail you will be fired. Upper management is disconnected from designers. Often the management team makes a decision which conflicts with the engineering team, but the team is responsible for meeting management decisions. Then we spend months trying to figure out why we failed."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Better communication is needed. The entire team must understand and buy-in to the project to be successful."

What do you like about working at Rockwell Collins?

"The technology is interesting. The projects are important. The work is challenging. There are a lot of good, hard-working technical people there."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be very certain of your objectives in coming to Rockwell Collins. You need to develop a relationship with someone in power or be content to have little chance at a forward career path."

What don't you like about working at Rockwell Collins?

"Government Systems is behind the times in business practices and content to keep doing what it has been doing. The middle management is so entrenched that the environment is like an exclusive golf club. You might be allowed to caddy, but very few are permitted to play the course. The project structure is fragmented in responsibilities which makes it difficult for knowledgeable staff to have the proper influence over product decisions."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Policies need to be more explicit so there is consistency in implementing employment practices. Managers need to be held accountable for the quality of what their team produces rather than being simply weak resource managers. Managers need to declare their personal relationships on conflict of interest forms as you would a business relationship."
