Reynolds Group, a leading manufacturer of food service packaging and beverage consumer products, was founded by Richard S. Reynolds in 1919 in Louisville, Kentucky. Its headquarters moved to New York City in 1931. Seven years later, the company relocated to Richmond, Virgina. Originally, Reynolds Group only supplied candy companies and cigarette manufacturers with lead and tin foil wrappings.

Reynolds Group expanded its market and began making aluminum foil for the general public in 1947 and opened its first aluminum plant nearby Sheffield, Alabama. In 1976, David P. Reynolds became president of the company and was the last family member to oversee all operations. By 1982, the Reynolds Group began creating non aluminum products and introduced Reynolds Plastic Wrap. In 2010, Reynolds Group merged with Hefty, another commercially known brand. Today Reynolds Group is the third largest manufacturer in the world and the second largest in the United States.
