Advertising Consultant

"Solid place to work but..."

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Good working environment. Great product. Really good people for the most part."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be sharp, be professional. Get ready for an intense but fun training period."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Watch out for your accounts. Others in the office will try and steal them out from under you."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Take a closer look at your talent and get rid of the dead weight. It seems the good people get fired and the losers become managers."

Director of Strategic Partnerships

"You need to know the right people and play the corporate game"

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"In the initial build phase it was a fun and energetic place to be. It didn't seem like work because you all believed in the same vision. Once the corporate choke hold was put around the company the place became a turnover mill and the each business unit became fragmented and worked in silos with limited communication or uniformed operating processes."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Sell your self hard. They are looking for the cut throat sales person that will tell you anything to make a deal. Retention is not their top priority. Tell them you can sell at full throttle and be as organized as an admin while supporting your clients."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"The steps to promotion and or job security were often broken and dirty because personal relationships and presentation often out weighed productivity and job performance."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would really have the leadership team chime down the self promotion and Chest beating that goes on almost everyday. If there is going to be such a high turnover rate you should really have clear metrics in place for termination. Not the, well I like that guy/gal and he or she gives us a polished look - Performance and Loyalty should be far more important than looks and relationships."

Internet Marketing Consultant

"Don't work here, you're welcome."

ReachLocal Employee

"Must love Cold Calling and Hard Work - That's the reality of it"

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"I like the people I work with and the office atmosphere"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just make sure you are willing to hustle especially in the beginning because you are building your business from the ground up. You also must be willing to work a lot of hours at least until you get it down, so be realistic if you have children etc.. may not be a good fit. You need to be honest about your ability to cold call, its 50% of the job everyone who comes here that doesn't cold call I have not seen last its a high activity based job, you are always prospecting and managing accounts so you have to like to do both because you are judged on both. This is not said to discourage people it is just the truth about the job, so if these are things you don't think you would like or can handle I recommend moving on. If you enjoy a challenge and don't mind cold calling and working a lot, you can make a lot of money and get to a point where all you are doing is managing your current clients and getting referrals it will be like having your own business you can come and go as you please as long as you are producing. If you like Internet Advertising this is HANDS DOWN the best product out there - you wont find another company that does what RL does"

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"The amount of sheer work and expectations. You are required to handle all your accounts, manage them (which is very time consuming) be the customer service dept, handle all support questions and work with support to resolve them and sell new business. Its a really hard balance and you must truly love what you do or else it just will not be a good fit, I've seen a lot of people come and go."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"To be a bit more realistic as it pertains to goals and work load. The reality is there are the superstars in this company who manage to get over 100% but if you look at the company as a whole this is not true, many people are struggling to balance all this work, to have a sales person be responsible for all of this is really in a way un realistic and I beleive they lose a lot of great people because of it."

Internet Marketing Consultant

"Professional Enivornment, Great People, Your not going to get rich."

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Professional Environment, Amazing Founders and Top Level Executives, Exceptional Growth, Real Technology"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Understand the market and competition before going in. Understand the value of ReachLocal and the type of clients they are going after. Have no hesitation to pick up the phone and call. This is a sales position after all, Cold Calling and Appointment setting is a must."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"In the Sales position, you are limited to selling in your region and to certain types of businesses. Anything smaller or larger than the ideal account for a client poses problems down the line. Growth is possible but rewards are limited."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Create incentives at more achievable levels. Create better understanding beyond sales training for the product. As competition increases in the space, potential clients become savvy with tech jargon and expectations."
