Working at Putnam Investments in Andover, MA: 7 Employee Reviews

UNIX Administrator

"I worked under Nick Raymond at Putnam Investments for 5 months and he was an excellent UNIX Manager/Team Lead. Highly skilled in massaging fixed length sequential records so I learned a lot about NAWK and SED and other UNIX Power tools from him. Also we used the korn and C Shells a lot so it was nice to use something better than the plain Bourne (sh) shell for scripting. We also used more advanced shell environments such as bash and tcsh."

Client Operations Analyst

"A comfortable place to work with great benefits and good pay, but needs to work on growth opportunities for employees"

What do you like about working at Putnam Investments?

"The managers are very focused and there to help you succeed. The training is very good and they truly care about their employees."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be confident and express your desire to work hard for the company. Express what your desires are regarding a career path and see if they a position that will work well for you."

What don't you like about working at Putnam Investments?

"Once you are in a certain department such as client services or client operations it is hard to leave that department. You might be more qualified to work in a different area of the company but they tend to shy away from having employees more around departments. You can be pigeonholed into a job and not a career."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Look more internally for people that are trying to switch departments. They already have a lot of the training and understanding of the company and its products. Keep people happy by placing them where they would fit best. You have a tendency to hire less qualified people that are applying externally. There is a lot of resentment with the current employees regarding that."
