A process engineer is a form of chemical engineer that works on developing processes in the development of products that modern society depends on. Process engineers may work on a variety of different processes in terms of design, conception and layout and design processes for many technical systems. More specifically, process engineers deal with a chemical, thermal scientific branch of engineering.



Skillset: Process engineering is a fairly new branch of engineering, so creativity and a willingness to adapt and learn new methods is essential. Analytical skills and math skills are important in any branch of engineering, and in the case of process engineering a strong background in science is essential.



Education: A prospective process engineer should first complete high school and then seek out a bachelor's degree in some branch of Engineering. Process engineering could be considered a branch of chemical engineering, so a degree in chemical engineering is ideal.



Career Path: Ideally, a process engineer should have a background in science and math during high school followed by a bachelor's in chemical engineering. Without a specific job lined up, a process engineer may want to look into an internship.
