"I've worked for party city for 2 years now. Amazing coworkers and staff, nice pay too. The hours are flexible and everyone is quite nice and easy to work with. The managers/supervisors give us gifts on the holidays to show they appreciate us and everyone is very supportive."

"Where do I even begin?!this is my 3rd week working at this ***shit*** hole, and I’m already hating this place. The managers are irresponsible, negative and a joke. The store manager is always gone, I have two other managers that are disrespectful towards me and won’t give me the time of day. When they have an issue with me they won’t come to me because they’re pathetic and can’t be adults. Instead they are being high schoolers and talking ***shit*** behind my back. I had a scheduling issue this past weekend. I had a church conference. And I told THE STORE MANAGER! (Remind you he’s never at this party city). Anyways, I texted him saying I need a cover for my Saturday shift I can’t work it because I PAID money for this conference that was important to me. He said that would be okay. Two weeks later, I texted him and said I need to switch shifts. (Scheduling is chaotic and they expect you to always be at their begging call). He told me saying he’s tired of me making excuses why I can’t work!!!! Okay first of all.. I was not making an excuse and secondly I’m sorry that I NEEDED SOMEONE TO COVER ME! also, they were yet again talking ***shit*** behind my back. I had to hear from two co workers saying that I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHOSE NOT ALLOWED TO CALL IN OR SWITCH SHIFTS! That’s not only very poor management but that is in fact discrimination! Because they didn’t say other people can NOT switch shifts, because other co workers can. I am THE ONLY coworker who can’t! And I had to hear it from OTHER CO WORKERS! That’s bullshit. Management is a bunch of jokes and sad people. IF THEY HAD AN ISSUE WITH ME CALL OR TEXT ME! DO NOT go to other co workers and ***bitch*** about me. That’s unprofessional. Every day I go into work and get off of work my anxiety spikes and it’s worsening me. My managers won’t even give me the time of day. In fact I heard one of the managers whispering about me WHILE I WAS ON THE CLOCK! so unless if you want to have your mental illness spike work at party city! ??"

"I've worked for Party City for a while now, and it is the worst retail job I've ever had. Corporate sets unreal weekly expectations with a laughable payroll. Basically no hours to have the manpower to get things done. Lazy and ignorant upper management make getting tasks done even more difficult. Alerting HR offers no anonymity or protection from reprisals. Politics between upper management and DMs is rampant. If you're not in their crowd you have nothing but berating to look forward to on a weekly basis or threats of being written up and terminated. The waste ($$$) here is astounding."

"I started at Party City as a Design Specialist right before they discontinued the position. I was not happy to be forced into management because I loved my job in the Design Studio. It was made more miserable by poor store morale and awful work load in Halloween set ups. Hated this place!"

"Is generally a good place to work, but as in any job, they have their bad details, in my case, they didn't pay me for one time, that the care get there at 4 in the morning (as required) and the manager arrived at 5am. That hour waiting was a not-payed waste hour. And being at that time (4 in the morning) is something a little bit big."

"They hire tons of high school kids because they're cheap labor, but they also don't do their jobs well, you get stuck picking up their slack while still getting paid very poorly and treated badly. Severely inconsistent schedule, 1 week it's as many hours as you want, next week it's only 10. They over hire and under pay to avoid benefits and overtime. Don't work for this company you'll hate it."

"I started working for Party City at 16 years old. While it was a great job for an inexperienced teenager, I found that what Party City lacked was consistency in Operations from Manager to Manager and scheduling errors were made frequently which caused there to be either too many or not enough people working at one time. This was inevitably what made it impossible to stay."

"stereotype big corp - do as your told and only say postive things.."

What do you like about working at Party City?

"Perks and freebees. Most of the lower level staff are dedicated and friendly, hard working and helpful."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Give the expected answers. They want to check if you're the kind of person who will be enthusiastically about your job. Demonstrate a willingness to put a positive spin on negatives and the ability to project conviction is key to success."

What don't you like about working at Party City?

"Management and decision making are politicized and fragmented resulting in contradictory and impossible directions. Rewards and success are not related to merit or job performance because manager rewards are based on politics above not performance below. Doing something obviously poorly, or stupid or even bad/evil to keep your job is common."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I think management has to spend all it's effort on fulfilling directives of higher ups (C-level execs) and is not free to act on suggestions of their own or others. Mangers are working under takeover focused execs who want to quickly drive down costs and increasing short term stock market performance. If objectives are not met, politics will determine each mangers success or dismissal."
