"I love being a Paralegal because it allows me to work side by side with attorneys to help our clients to reach an excellent settlement. Some of these devastating accidents have disabled most of our clients which strips them of a quality of life. My job has allowed me to diligently move cases from inception to trial to meet our goal. I cannot say that I hate anything about being a Paralegal because this is a career path that I chose with the ability to ultimately become an Attorney some day."

Paralegal at Financial Industry Regulatory Authority
in Boca Raton, FL

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Overly stressful due to mercurial manager."

What do you like about working at Financial Industry Regulatory Authority?

"The autonomy, reading legal documents and assisting in creating an arbitration committee, setting up the hearings in 4 states and follow up with the result."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Unless a) they have a new manager or b) you have a psychiatrist to prescribe anti-depressants, avoid this place."

What don't you like about working at Financial Industry Regulatory Authority?

"Negative work environment. No matter how well you did, it was never good enough. The manager was petty and would yell at you in front of everyone for petty things such as a copier not working properly (how is that my fault)"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff. You made working there a hell for the employees not because they did a bad job, but because you had a bad temper."

Paralegal at McCabe, Weisberg & Conway
in Laurel, MD

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Very difficult work situation. Not a stable place to work."

What do you like about working at McCabe, Weisberg & Conway?

"The co-workers are OK. If people lasted with the firm longer, could make some good friendships. Also, it seems like the firm stays busy so you won't be laid off for lack of work."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you have a job and are looking to make a move, keep looking, keep your options open. If you go to McCabe, you're just going to be looking again in a few weeks, if not before. Also, don't plan on them raising your pay after you've started working there. If you absolutely must take the job, try to get as good a pay rate as you can from the start. Because this firm has basically no benefits. Even if you're a long time employee, you get only 1 wk of paid vacation per yr. The health insurance has basically no benefit and costs as much as a policy you could buy yourself on the individual market."

What don't you like about working at McCabe, Weisberg & Conway?

"The firm is pretty cheap. You will have far, far more work than you could ever reasonably complete. The firm has a crazy amount of rules and will fire people for violating rules even one time. The work environment is like a modern day concentration camp. People disappeared all the time. It could even be someone who had been there for months, never missed a day, worked hard, etc. You really can't understand it until you are there."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I actually think management might be doing well enough financially that they just don't care. You see, this firm has very few partners/shareholders. I think there are 3 in Philadelphia and 1 in each other office. So out of the entire firm, the real benefits/profits are concentrated in just a handful of people. So, whatever, if I was them I might not change much either. I just would be realistic and not expect people to show much loyalty."

in White Plains, NY

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"My first experience in a law office as a Paralegal."

What do you like about working at Jasne & Florio?

"It was a real hands on place for me. We all ate lunch together and the lawyers talked about their cases, and welcomed my input."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Prepared to be underwhelmed by the salary they offer you."

What don't you like about working at Jasne & Florio?

"They were cheap, cheap, cheap. They claimed that they would never paid $40,000 for a Paralegal when he could hire a kid lawyer who would stand up for him in court. He hired young lawyers and treated them like errand boys. He drove a really junkie car, that leaked oil and overheated. Sometimes they would cut off the telephone service until the bill was paid."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Pay the secretaries a decent wage, you skinflints. Don't take junk cases."

Paralegal at Novartis Pharmaceuticals
in Cambridge, MA

What do you like about working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals?

"European culture, somewhat laid back atmosphere, great benefits, good pay."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Ask your interviewers how your role will advance your career. What advancement opportunities can they see you achieving in 18-24 months? How does the company feel about contributing to further education, graduate school, etc?"

What don't you like about working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals?

"It is such a giant company that individual employee advancement slips through the cracks. The company forgets that people want to climb a ladder and feel a sense of achievement in their career. Novartis would be perfectly happy under-utilizing an employee for years and years, as long as it works out for the company."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If I were running my department I would encourage my employees more with opportunities for advancement."
