What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"Gratifying to work directly with customers at the C-level to identify their business needs and utilizing our resources to create win-win solutions while growing share-of-wallet sales. Ability to work from home environment, self motivated."

What don't you like about working at OfficeMax?

"I was originally hired by Boise Cascade before the merge with OfficeMax. Boise Cascade had a customer first philosophy. Listen to the customer, identify the need/pain and utilize our toolbox of solutions to fill that need. At OfficeMax, the business reviews and incentives were built around trying to sell our customer on very specific programs whether they were a good fit or not."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Continue to find ways to streamline costs but don't forget to listen to the customer."

"Officemax total solutions is a total joke."

What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"Not much. They should stick to focusing on selling commodities (office products) and stop kidding themselves that they are a viable solution provider. The only solution they are providing right now is confusion to their customers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't do it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop 'partnering' and develop your own solutions. Most of the companies that they 'partner' with are direct competitors, thus makes it frustrating for their salespeople. In addition, streamline the report to process; when you have commodity driven salespeople and those you are tasking to sell solutions they need to report into the same organization. Conversely, if total solutions are what you are focusing on, then you should recognize those sales people who have a background in that type of offering and allow them to lead and do their job."

"A company that needs a serious shakeup."

What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"I had a great team to work with the first couple of years. They have a very good YTO plan, but other benefits are adequate at best."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Get as much as you can now, because once you are inside, your annual merit increases will be very minimal (if any at all). Find out quickly who thinks like you do. There are those individuals who 'drink the lemonade' and be careful around them."

What don't you like about working at OfficeMax?

"Upper management did not have clue what was going on in the real world."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Treat people the way you would like to be treated. Have reasonable expectations."

"Run fast from OfficeMax."

What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"Co-workers are great."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't go to work here...the company is not built on a good foundation and takes its employees for granted. Management makes it NOT a very good place to work and make a contribution that matters."

What don't you like about working at OfficeMax?

"Company direction is in constant flux. Management really out of touch with reality. Severe lack of vision on upper management's part. They change their professional direction at least 3 times a year."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Start treating employees like you value them and their contribution."
