1.6Loosen up, take care of your people and they will take care of you (bring in profits), offer and promote ongoing leadership education, learn to listen - your way is not always the best! Support your mid-level management team, trust your mid-level managers/coordinators/supervisors, don't prohibit staff from developing meaningful working relationships, support department and leadership growth through off-site training and development opportunities, don't overwork your your hardest workers, show appreciation in more than a bonus, treat subordinates with respect, 1 hours lunches EVERYDAY vs 45 minutes! less restrictions on time off - staff up to support unforseen challenges, don't rely on PRN employees.
1.9Northside hsp Emergency Room is a great place to work if you are Caucasian.
As a Caucasian Nurse, they treat me very well.
But when I see how management treats the African American Nurses and techs over there, it truly breaks my heart and there is nothing I can say about it because I am afraid that they will feel that I am against them. Only Caucasian Nurses get promoted over there, and once they are promoted, they also look down to other nurses and feel way too up there to help on the floor. If it’s not trauma related, they won’t get involved and they always get away with it. If you are African American and don’t have tough skin, Northside Lawrenceville is not for you, I would recommend Northside Duluth instead.
2.1Overall, the hospital is an excellent place to work but most of the departments aren't as welcoming to minorities even if you are qualified for the position. In my 15 years of being employed in the medical field, I have never experienced an uncomfortable work setting as such. One manager who works there is the worst clinical manager to work under when it comes to Northside's surgery department. I have never been this unhappy in an department at NSH and I've worked in three for the last 10 years.
