1Remember that employees are treated as disposables, with no respect and/or dignity - hence the high turnover rates. Directors and their cronies run this place and get away with just about anything. All employees are clearly divided into favorites/cronies and ultimate outsiders. If you are not skilled at back-stubbing, snitching and gossiping, this is likely not the most rewarding place for you. Cronies and favorites get cherished, promoted and publicly praised. They can also have the 'privilege' of their own schedule, easy access to Director and travel.
Apart from being put down and humiliated (when you are not a crony), you will be roped into all sorts of meetings lasting all day long, with an expectation that you will do your actual work duties at your own time - that is evenings, weekends and often nights, without being compensated for it. If you are dare not to obey that kind of “after hours” routine, then you will be singled out as an outsider, publicly chastised and ignored all the way. Yes, I have seen this happen.
Prepare to be overworked and treated as trash. Your sense of worthiness will plummet and dissolve over time, while the kiss-uppers will thrive in the environment of sheer power game and favoritism. Staff is always overworked and too scared to complain. And who would they complain to? Directors? HR? Senior Management?
Do not expect to be heard if you complain, HR is completely unconcerned with the status quo, and do not play any particular strong role in making things right. Directors think they are gods and that they can treat you any whichever way they please. Too, they do the minimal amount of work that will ensure they are keeping their positions, while drawing enormous salaries and benefits. Micromanaging is the favorite ad --- seems the only way of managing people in this place. They give all the lip service about life/work balance and do everything to create exactly the opposite.
1Like most companies or organizations, it is very hit or miss depending on the team. Unfortunately, in my experience within the Product Management and Business Intelligence portfolio, there are more misses than hits. You may think that those who make the effort to write a review are more likely to be former disgruntled employees, and rightfully so. One should wonder, however, why so many employees have left in such a state of bitterness.
Leadership at all levels (team lead, manager, and director) follow a very authoritarian style where those in power act only to impress their superiors instead of inspiring loyalty and confidence in those they lead. They will lie to save face and I have witnessed colleagues being pulverized because they were thrown under the bus. You might hope that HR or "People and Culture" are there to protect the lowly minions, but that hope would be in vain. A better name for them would be "Power and Control." If leadership are the ones to throw you under the bus, HR are the ones driving it.
Many in power rule with an iron fist yet will feign ignorance or surprise when there is a high turnover or low employee engagement. For instance, in a recent employee engagement survey, it was revealed that almost one third of employees already have one foot out the door. Specifically, one third of employees
(1) believed there were no opportunities for career growth;
(2) indicated that they did not expect to be with the organization in the next two years; and
(3) were already actively looking for opportunities outside of the organization.
In some departments, these values were closer to 50%. And did I mention that the overall approval rate of the executive team was 17%?
If this sounds like an inspirational organization, then welcome aboard. Or if all you care about is a paycheck, then this organization is probably sufficient. If, however, you want to work in an organization that truly values their employees, stay far away and save yourself.
1NexJ Systems Inc is one big, giant mess. NexJ Systems is similar to the modern millennial in that it's trying to figure out what to do with the rest of her/his life. With levels upon levels of unnecessary management, NexJ Systems is a perfect example of a bloated IT organization. Senior management staffs are simply inept at either understanding financial services, or working with people. The nepotism/favouritism is through the roof and the organization makes constant (laughable) attempts at trying to "engage" with their staff. The messages sent from the CEO to all staff in the form of town hall meetings are akin to brainwashing staff in believing that what they're doing is valued when the reality is, an organization like NexJ Systems shouldn't exist. At an average score of <3.0, take the hint myself and others are trying to pass along and apply your talents at an organization that will value your contributions.
