Overview Middle Tennessee State University, located in Murfreesboro TN, began in 1911 as a two-year school for training teachers. Its original name was Middle Tennessee State Normal School. Over the years it evolved into a four year college and, ultimately, to a university in 1965 at which time it assumed its current name. What began as a school on 100 acres with a student body of 125 is now a campus of over 500 acres with 26,000 students. There are over 900 faculty members not including support staff.

Middle Tennessee State University is home to the Blue Raiders and competes at the NCAA’s highest level as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The school fields teams in all the major sports.
