"Working for MDCPS has its ups and downs. On the one hand, I'm able to perform my job duties as best as possible. However, it is highly frustrating that myself (or the majority working here) are not rightfully compensated for the work we do day in and out."

"Since being hired, I have experienced some of the worst treatment by my own coworkers and administrators as well. Coming into the present school-year, we were told (as well as the public) that ALL buses would be equipped with A/C. That only lasted for the first week. And if you reside on Miami, then you know that it is sticky, humid and to drive a bus load (50+) students with no A/C and the heat of the engine is beating up your body because you are literally sitting on it. The salary is $15k."

"I have worked with MDCPS since 1998 and have seen many changes through the years. While some have been less than stellar for faculty and staff, some have seen improvements in pay, working conditions and/or both. Like any large government institution, bureaucracy is rampant and sometimes the simplest of tasks are monumental in the comparison to the time in which they would've been accomplished in the private-sector."

"I enjoy working with my co-teacher. I really enjoy teaching students that love to learn and love asking questions to gain more information."

"Don't do it. There is never enough money. You are constantly worried about loosing your job even if your a veteran."

What don't you like about working at Miami-Dade County Public Schools?

"There is no climbing the ladder in the school system. You are either a teacher or an administrator. Constantly proving that you are a good teacher is ridiculous. In order for you to get help for a student, you have to jump through a zillion hoops before anything actually happens. You work your butt off & there are teachers that take advantage of the system & don't do what they are suppose to & you wind up getting reprimanded. Parents either like you or hate you, no happy medium. They come with a chip on their shoulder or agree with everything you say and do nothing to help their child. VERY frustrated!!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would get rid of grading schools. I would change the FCAT testing. I would not put the sole purpose of a student failing on the shoulders of the teacher."
