Litton Industries was formally a large defense contractor for the United States of America. The company was bought for $3.6 billion by the Northrop Grumman Corporation in 2001 and now abides by that name. The North Grumman Corporation has headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, although Litton Industries had its headquarters out west in California. The corporation has separate military and commercial companies that each work on major projects in their field.
Charles Litton Sr. started working on Litton Industries in the 1930s, but did not expand the business until the early 1950s when he found a major investor to invest in his business. The company has invented and developed several hundred products for the military, with the majority of them being related to navigation systems and electronic warfare.
