"Kroger/Turkey Hill Minit Markets definitely underpays all of the store level employees (GSM down to clerk) way under market value. They actually pride themselves in holding down store level salaries as a cost of the business and is heavily weighted in EBITDA. GSM's are name only, they don't have full authority over the store they are assigned to (i.e., cannot offer salary increases to employees, cannot negotiate new hire salaries, cannot tender a job offer to anyone (all of this has to come from corporate HR). GSM's are required to make weekly schedules, but they are bound up to adhering to hours allotted by a computer program that allots hours based on customer transactions and not customer or store needs. This leads to never having enough hours to accomplish all the tasks to operate the store without the manager putting in more unpaid overtime. And as a full fledged General Store Manager, you are put on Salary Exempt and expected to work a "MINIMUM" of 48 hours a week, including days, nights and weekends. Bonuses are mostly unattainable because they depend more on criteria not under control of the manager and are not nearly on par with the company CEO. Many things are promised, few are delivered."
