During a typical day at work, a design engineer may help to create blueprints, develop charts and graphs using computer software and send business communications emails.
Skillsets: Many design engineers are extremely focused on details and are able to create and implement new ideas to draft innovative designs. They usually have strong drafting and engineering skills and have a solid science and mathematics background.
Education: A masters degree or a PhD in computer science, commercial engineering, electrical engineering or construction engineering is typically desired for a job as a design engineer. A bachelors degree in a related field, combined with detailed work experience or a quality internship may also be sufficient, depending on the type of company and industry a person desires to find employment in.
Career Path: A solid basis for a career as a design engineer is built on an in-depth knowledge of drafting, computer science, electronics and industrial science. Physics classes and drafting classes are recommended.
