Justice For All Revolution Employee

"This was a really depressing place to work. It was filled with so much false hope, and the journey of this small organization took a nosedive over the course of several months. When I first signed on to the position, I was guaranteed a yearly salary of over $100K, and that our service was truly about the greater good of helping people. I bought into that hook, line, and sinker. The biggest problem lied in how clueless the management was. None of them understood social media. They had raised $40k in seed capital funds to develop a platform for people suffering from a variety of problems. They had a roster of self-help facilitators that were experts in their respective fields to assist people with needs. At its core, the idea of a social support group platform seemed like a great idea. They piddled every penny of it away on a Wordpress installation with a custom theme. There was no custom underlying platform, and as you would imagine, the entire app was garbage. At the last possible minute, I helped them pivot onto a new platform based on Drupal. This would have been fine, except for the fact that the higher-ups there kept wanting an application that grew more and more complex, and I was given only a shoestring budget to work with. "Give it the ability to upload videos!" they cried "make it like YouTube, but with blogging and group functionality! Give it real-time video chat capabilities!" All of those things are possible, but it's just not a productive way to pitch product design. Due to character limit, I can't go into all the details of everything. Let's just say that it was run by some racist evangelical Christian egomaniacs. This story involves C-list celebrities, a country musician that wanted to put games in our app, and a redesign process from hell. One time, in an act of desperation, the CEO nearly fell for a Nigerian scam. With tears in her eyes, she cried "We're saved!" The cherry on top was that they withheld my last month's paycheck there."
