Skillset: IT technicians will need to have a solid background in hardware, software and networking. They should be able to handle any basic repair issue and also ensure that systems continue to run smoothly.
Education: Many IT technicians attend a four-year school and receive degrees in Computer Science or related programs. However, it is also not uncommon for employers to hire people who have gone to two-year vocational schools or have several years of experience in the field.
Career Path: An IT technician will need to stay on top of changes to hardware, software and networking to be able to continue to troubleshoot and maintain IT systems for a company. Most technicians begin with entry-level positions and are then able to move into higher-level positions as they gain experience.
