"AT&T is a giant brontosaurus. So big, in fact, that the head does not know what the tail and feet are doing."
What do you like about working at AT&T?
"Until the recession hit, we had plenty of work."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"If you want to become an FTE at AT&T I suggest that you take all educational credentials beyond high school off of your resume. You will want what is on your resume to be the very minimum qualifications for the job. The reason is because you cannot appear career oriented at AT&T. If you are career oriented then the FTEs that sit there for 20 years to get their pension will not like you. The easiest way to keep out the competition is to not hire you in the first place. You want to appear barely qualified, desperate for a job, and not too aggressive about career advancement. If you have this and are not too educated (I have three degrees: BBA, MS, MBA), physically attractive, or a mesomorph then you will fit in well with AT&T's culture. It is a dead slow pace of a place to work. Decisions take a long time. It takes even longer for the decisions to flow throughout the organization. If you are 58 years old and want to get a paycheck for the next 10 years without having to work hard to get it then AT&T is the place for you. If you have any ambition or intellectual capacity you will not enjoy working at AT&T."
What don't you like about working at AT&T?
"AT&T is stuck in the 1970's. It is the largest employer of union labor in the US. AT&T FTEs seemed to have an entitlement mentality. AT&T gives FTEs titles like manager when the FTE doe not manage anyone. AT&T has 3 FTEs for every 1 FTE that it needs - is organizational bloat - this is why they lay off people freely if they miss analyst projections for a quarter."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"AT&T's management needs to keep on doing what they are doing. AT&T shareholders and customers are at the very bottom of priorities for AT&T management. Basically, management at AT&T take care of themselves first, then any of their good-ol-boy underlings 2nd. If you are not in on the scam then you get nothing."
