What do you like about working at International Data Group?

"I appreciate having a high degree of autonomy as I pursue topics about which to write."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you're applying for an editorial position, it's helpful to have skills with creating and editing images. Also, don't expect to use any cutting-edge technologies found on more modern sites, such as video or interactive polls."

What don't you like about working at International Data Group?

"There's no clear vision as to what we are trying to accomplish, nor is there a clear plan as to how to achieve that goal. It feels like we're flying by the seat of our pants - and we don't have enough resources to be a compelling online resource for the topics we cover."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would engage with employees regularly to solicit their ideas, both in group settings as well as on a one-on-one basis. I would provide direction as needed, along with regular constructive feedback on their job performance. I would make an effort to understand their short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, then work with them to achieve those goals with guidance, training, and mentoring."

What do you like about working at International Data Group?

"My job responsibilities felt meaningful to me, which is key. I was part of a team yet worked very independently. Overall, the other employees were terrific and I made several friends and enjoyed many of the co-workers. Computerworld is one business unit of a greater company, IDG. So, you enjoy the atmosphere of a small company yet have the support of the parent company for resources."

What don't you like about working at International Data Group?

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Increase the focus on giving current employees a way to move up in the system. Very little room for growth as it is run lean."
