HR assistants provide support to a human resource managerial staff. During a typical work day, an HR assistant may explain employee benefits to employees, file insurance claims for workers, and may also provide organizational duties and standard office support to keep the human resources department running smoothly.
Skillset: HR assistants have an aptitude for operating computers with efficiency, answering phones and they have a well-rounded understanding of employee benefits and personnel payroll issues. They work closely with HR managers and also provide support to employees who need assistance with a variety of work-related issues.
Education: An associates or bachelors degree in human resources, business management or communication is desirable for an HR assistant. It is recommended for a person to take leadership development courses and to have an in-depth understanding of insurance policies and employee/business contracts.
Career Path: The foundation of a career in human resource assisting is based on an ability to work well with other team members and an ability to explain benefits and employee contracts to provide support to both business managers and employees of a company. Excellent oral communication and written skills are desirable and recommended.
