Working at Houston Independent School District in Houston, TX: 17 Employee Reviews

Houston Independent School District Employee

"It really depends what position you have or what department you work in but overall it is a decent environment. As usual, an organization of this size has its fair share of red tape at times but it's a stable employer."

"HIGHLY TOXIC ENVIRONMENT! Beware!!!!! If you report any type of employment abuse, no matter the proof, HR will do NOTHING! YOU WILL BECOME A TARGET FOR THE HUNT! Problems: 1. Bate and switch with your financial offer. 2. Pawn you off to other departments (where their friends have employee shortages) and you’ll be working for two or more departments (for the price of one—-paid to do one). 3. Everyone seems to be clicked up. Meaning if you’re not apart of their sorority or fraternity you cannot move up in the company! 4. Bullying is normal in the company! 5. Board Members are embarrassing, unprofessional, and cunning towards each other (publicly). 6. If you don’t have a PhD in education, your opinion doesn’t matter. Sales, marketing, Development strategies or ideas don’t make sense so you’re automatically wrong. I’ve seen Professionals from other industries come to this organization and try to make it better by providing credible resources and get completely shut down because the person with the PhD credentials doesn’t have the experience to understand what they were saying or it didn’t make sense to them at that time so they automatically became wrong. 7. Once you become a target——you will be blackballed in the city! Prepare for it! It’s a highly successful breeding ground for narcissistic personality types!"
