Working at Houston Chronicle in Houston, TX: 5 Employee Reviews

Advertising Account Executive

"I started working for the Houston Chronicle back in November 2018. Overall a very fun work environment. At times the workplace could get stressful due to deadlines, but overall a good place for entry level positions. Pros: great support staff, decent bonuses (when goals were obtainable). Cons: not much time off, work-life balance seemed to be difficult not originally being from Houston."

Houston Chronicle Employee

"I have worked for the Houston Chronicle for over 2 years now. While I have enjoyed my time here, and appreciate the experience I have gained, the company structure does not predict long term benefits to stay with the company. Recent cutbacks have taken away most perks of working for this company, and constant changes to the bonus plan make it near impossible to make any money. As far as long term stability goes, no one is safe and every 6 to 8 months it seems there is a slew of layoffs. In 2 years here I have only seen one retirement celebration, but have seen many lay offs including people recently hired all the way to people who have been working for the company for over 15+ years. As far as digital advertising goes, there are constant roadblocks to getting advertising reserved, scheduled, and fulfilled. There are too many layers to scheduling a campaign, and if some of these layers were removed digital ads would be much easier and much more successful."
