"Poor - a change in management which coincided with this long financial crisis has created a culture of confusion and paranoia."
What do you like about working at Holland & Knight?
"I am excited by my work and by pushing to become a better lawyer. I have a large group of fellow associates in other H&K offices with whom I get to work. Many partners in my office are supportive and true mentors of the profession."
What don't you like about working at Holland & Knight?
"Overwhelming change in management style has gutted H&K's long tradition of championing the profession over the business side of the profession. The heart of the firm has gone missing."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Stop for a moment and stop changing everything in the hopes that something will magically change the firm's ability to profit during this time. What you need is the intellectual capital of the firm to oversee this transition, and what has been installed is a system of number-crunching and common management-level inconsistencies."
"OK firm if you have no options, and want to work at a large firm."
What do you like about working at Holland & Knight?
"I like that the firm is not too busy so I can have a personal life sometimes. Some people are nice (there are jerks everywhere). But H&K does have a lot of jerks especially in the Boston office."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Review the website - speak about pro bono work and community service. You won't get the respect you deserve for doing such work, but the firm will surely market itself as one that cares about the community."
What don't you like about working at Holland & Knight?
"The pay is really bad and partners hoard work. They hold onto work that associates should do - and the firm can't attract big Fortune 500 clients. Management spent lots of money on marketing and we ended up changing the look of the firm to its original blue look. That was a disaster. Also, there are a lot of partners who sexually harass younger associates and management does not do anything about it."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"When an attorney does something like break the law, then let them go. H&K Boston office has a lot of affairs going on - and it is uncomfortable of a work environment. The mentoring is lacking, too. But there are some good people out there."
