"This company has a high turnover rate the reason being is because the employees just get hammered with I want to do this and this and this we use to have 2 overnight cashier's now we only have one she left to start her own business the one guy we do have he's a champion taking it on the chin every night but to get him extra help what does the management do they take away from the overnight shift stockers who are the back bone of the store and make it more strenuous on us to get things done then a month after the district manager decides to transfer our over night grocery assistant which made it even more impossible to do our jobs but they expected it to still get done. Me seeing how much we needed help I went into the managers office and said I'd be willing to take that position they instead gave me a key holders position which was fine I wanted to learn anyways so I take all this extra responsibility and guess what NO RAISE OF ANY KIND! I just don't understand this company which is a shame because I had high hopes when starting this job and the managers only care about themselves there is only a select few I can go talk to about things this company would be awesome if we could just clean it up but is what you get with a merged company there's no real boss"
"Hard work, low pay, out of this world expectations of employees."
What do you like about working at Harris Teeter?
"Working with some nice people (not in management) and set hours every week as an overnight cashier."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Get used to working hard at a pay rate $0.50 above minimum wage with no chance of a raise. Don't expect to be able to work more than 28 hours a week, more like an average of 15. Expect that management will have out of this world expectations and will put it out on you when not met. And if going for overnight shifts don't plan on a chance to advance."
What don't you like about working at Harris Teeter?
"Lots of hard work always standing on your feet. The front end is not really engineered for tall people, always have to bend over to be able to use the registers causing back pain. The low pay compared with other companies with like jobs. The company has a goes out of its way to treat the customer right, but does not treat employees well."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"To increase wages of employees for the amount of work done.Don't expect the impossible from people every night (i.e. be short on people one night, have a large truck and still expect everything to be done in the morning). Oh, and don't over hire so much where you can only give employees 4 hrs a week."
