Working at Halliburton in Houston, TX: 56 Employee Reviews

Halliburton Employee

"I worked for Halliburton for approximately 18 months. Things started out strong when we had a large number of jobs. When our rig count slowed down, they were quick to cut the workforce by a pretty large margin. I was laid off as a result."

Senior Data Scientist

"I started at Halliburton from Aug 2016. This was my first corporate job after a long academic career. From the beginning, I was reporting to The chief data scientist and I had a good visibility within our verticals and had good exposure to E &P data sets and domain within Halliburton. Great company with good salary and good openings for someone who wants to grow. But being a service company, the availability of field data is sparse and hence data driven work was slow so technically growing data science skills might be slow."

Halliburton Employee

"I worked at Halliburton for over seven years. I joined when the market was in a rebound, and they were one of the few oil field service companies hiring. Things were good at the beginning, as the PSL had a good vice president. He cared for the product and people. Last few years "Halliburton" guys took the fun out of it. Good people at the lower levels, but I would not go back."

"I've worked for Halliburton for 15 years as a Sr. Software Tester, involved with designing test cases, test plans, and test reports. I have been involved in managing projects where we have had multiple off-shore testers. I evaluated software life cycle management software and recommended products."

"This a very short-sided company that still practices the historic good ole boy system to a fault."

"A good stepping stone job for a recent graduate."

What do you like about working at Halliburton?

"As long as our job is running smoothly, nobody really bothers us too bad while we are here."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"During an interview with the company, tell them you have nothing holding you back from working. They want people without wives, pets, and commitments."

What don't you like about working at Halliburton?

"Usually I am away from home for two to four weeks at a time and on call to leave home 24/7. I am required to take vacations one week at a time and I only get two weeks per year."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"It would greatly help if our managers had a system to tell when we would be up for going out on a job - some sort of list where the first people to get in from a job are the first to go out. Do not wait until the last minute to call someone out for a job."

"Ok. It's hard to explain either way. You have to have a passion for any company you join irrespective of their good or bad points. Every organization has good and bad points."

"I had worked for Halliburton for two years. moving from an Electro-Mechanical position to an Engineering position. The mentor program there was horrible due to the envy of the mentoring engineer. Because I was completing an MBA the engineer in question refused to share the required information of how processes worked. He was solely interested in helping those that shared the same ethnicity as himself. It provided a very strained work environment."
