Do background checks on employees, Don't just hire because you have known the person for a long time. finally, if you don't understand something, don't avoid it, ask for help in understanding it or attend a class or two.
I worked for Habitat Lansing which I enjoyed very much due to the experiences it provided. Most of my projects centered around our annual House Party. This event required me to create flyers/invites, a newspaper ad, sponsorship brochures, a banner and welcome sign, in addition to other projects.
While looking for part time employment I stumbled across Metro Richmond Habitat for Humanity Restore. The organization has a strong presence in the community with an incredible mission for providing housing as a form to impact generational wealth. The organization is a part of a larger international organization, but the Richmond group employees about 40 individuals and has strong management.
