"I've worked as an IT contractor at Gilead Sciences for about a year. Although "big pharma" often gets a negative perception, I've felt good about working at a company that helps save lives. The work is challenging and it feels like it means something. That said, it can also be challenging to get things done because politics and policies often obstruct decision making. Also, the culture is very hierarchical, the ratio of FTE's to contractors is lopsided, and the company recently decided that contingent workers in IT would no longer be given their own desks. I hope that the short-term collateral damage of this move will eventually lead to a stronger and more collaborative environment."
"I have worked for Gilead for 7months being able to save people's life's is a mission the company leads with."
"Gilead is a very collaborative company with a ton of growth opportunities for employees coming at all levels."
"I've worked for the last year and its been good."
"I worked at Gilead Sciences in Foster City, CA, back in December 2016, for 6 months as a contract employee. As I was planning to retire in a few years (unless I was really enjoying my work), I took this opportunity to work at a large bio pharmaceutical. Previously, I worked at a small bio pharmaceutical and I thought it would be interesting to compare models. What a mistake! I essentially ended my career on a very bad note. The Clinical Development department I worked for was extremely dysfunctional. As anyone who has ever experienced an extremely dysfunctional workplace knows, it’s impossible; your only option is to leave. I had planned to finish out my career here, and I did, just much sooner than expected. My advice is to find out as much as possible about the group you will be working with prior to joining. For instance, I worked near the Regulatory Group and I could tell that they were a highly functioning, professional, and compatible group. Do your homework."
"For what I remember, they have a very tough security protocol... Their kitchen/ enterprise restaurant in Foster City is also cool..."
"I worked for Gilead Sciences as a contractor for about 1 year. The company has a great benefits package for permanent employees and treats them well. Working as a contractor is not as good an experience as contractors are always treated as a security threat, despite the good work and efforts they bring."
"I really enjoy working at Gilead. I have met amazing people, due to my husband's relocation, I am forced to look elsewhere."
