"Interviewing with Giant Eagle is pretty straightforward; if you can pass a drug test and criminal background check, you're good to go."

"The pay scales are extremely low, and the benefits take over a year to kick in."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Management is doing the best they can with what they have, although perhaps they could focus more on keeping the employees happy and less on improving the store layout."

"I enjoy the challenge of customer service and I like working at a company that has enough money overall so that on occasion we are allowed to give customers items free of charge."

"Do not be a shy person. If there is one thing all of the people I work with have, it is loving to socialize and meet new people. Also you need to be adaptive and willing to accept changes in the daily routine often."

What don't you like about working at Giant Eagle?

"I constantly come up with ideas about how to improve systems in my local store, but my supervisor and manager seem to just want to get in and get out and not mess with it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If I were running the show, I might instate a program at the local level where employees could voice complaints about little things, like supplies or customer concerns."

"The work I do is fulfilling and challenging. The problem is that the company always short changes when it comes to promotions. They have a habit of pulling the old bait and switch on all of their promises. It's hard to move up internally when they know they can short change you."

They do offer great benefits, decent salary, and they promote a work-home life balance that is hard to find in retail leadership positions."
