"Software leadership has always been inexperienced and incompetent. Management is clueless and composed of family, friends, and brown-nosers. Senior developers are ignorant of modern software design, development, and delivery principles, so they make bad decisions based on irrational, yet persuasive arguments or the advice of their favorites. There is no training or mentoring, but you have nothing to learn from them anyway. NIH (Not-Invented-Here) syndrome and EDD (Ego-Driven Development) dominate. Software quality is quantifiably terrible."
"The lay off was to rid the company of the old people, 1400 people we laid-off"
"Great company to work for. Very experienced engineers that will help out anybody. Highly recommend General Atomics."
"I have worked at GA for only a few months. However, it is a positive work environment that promotes collaboration and innovation. Management provides support for getting the tools we need to get the job done. They have flexible work schedules and promote work-life balance. We are provided with high end development environments and ergonomic work stations."
"The ridiculous revolving door of new employees, with no training and poor supervision."
"I've worked for General Atomics for just over four years. I enjoy the interaction I have with my customer on a regular/daily basis and seeing the immediate impact that my position can have with the customer completing their mission. General company culture is hard to assess as I am remotely located from my company main office. However, any support items or requests that I've made through the years have been handled with the utmost professionalism and urgency. Company pay is good, benefits very good, and they have a company paid pension as well (rare these days) in addition to 401k matching. All in all, General Atomics is a great company with a bright future."
"Basically they are looking for discount employees. They will give you a lowball offer which you should counter offer. Salary is negotiable but company policy limits them to two or three counter offers before they blacklist you. Remember GA is not looking for the most capable employees, competent will suffice and pay is low. This is probably not your dream career but its stable."
"I have worked at GA-ASI for 4 years. It is a very unstructured environment, usually flying by the seat of your pants. Not a lot of interaction with upper management. No clear goals or objectives for the company or the employees."
"Their engineering systems process is very poor."
"I worked for General Atomics for 6 months and found it to be a great company with good people. There is ample collaboration between co-workers and lots of people ready to help get new workers up to speed. Communication with leads is open and available."
"Many growing pains currently for this private company, so the tools and resources are a bit scattered. It's a big company, so there are definitely some non-achievers. Can't beat 9/80 schedule!"
"Working for General Atomics was a great experience. It is a huge company and gives you wonderful potential to advance your career within the company. Any transitioning military should most certainly look into a career with General Atomics."
