What do you like about working at Flashtalking?

"You have a chance to travel to Britain. Unfortunately, however, it's out in the middle of no where (Leeds); but at least they pay for your travel. They also buy you a laptop when you get hired."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you're an experienced developer looking to expand your skills, this would NOT be the place that you would want to be. They advertise themselves as being innovative but most of the technical work that they have does not require extensive technical training. You will get bored, and there is absolutely no room to grow in your skills. However, if you're an absolute novice, who have no experience in web development, then you can probably learn beginner-level web technology here."

What don't you like about working at Flashtalking?

"While they boast in the fact that they're a well known company in Britain, the U.S. sector is disorganized and have poor management. They have an extremely high turnover rate, and it's really evident that most workers are utterly unhappy and bored. The managers and directors are incredibly disorganized and have no idea what is going on in the projects majority of the time. Although this is supposed to be a tech company, most of them, including the ceo and the directors, have absolutely no formal technical training/experience. If you're an engineer or a programmer, it will be really frustrating working here because they have no clue how their own products work...And you will constantly have to explain 'how everything works'. The company has no formal training either, so you'll have to be able to figure things out on your own. Also they keep hiring inexperienced works, who have no professional speaking/writing skills, so you'll often run into miscommunication or immature drama. Their office is small, and they encourage everyone to sit in clusters (of usually 4 or 5 people), facing each other. You basically hear EVERYONE's conversations, while you're trying to finish your work. They also have a central music box, where they blast anyone and and anybody's playlists... allllllll day. It's the most distracting, claustrophobic environment. They have a really small kitchenette with a fridge but they have mice problems because many of them don't clean up after themselves."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"All mangers and directors need professional training in leadership, technical skills and organizational skills. Although they have been in the U.S. market for several years, they still do not have a dedicated team to manage projects, which is appalling and embarrasing. As a developer there, there will be nobody backing you up or getting the necessary materials/info to finish your job."
