"I’ve worked for Ferguson for over 5 years. The benefits are a bonus, but the trade-off is you don’t get paid as well as other competitors. In the 5+ years I’ve been here I’ve never been promoted and only been given a marginal 3% raise per year on average. The work is stressful and chaotic, no clear direction from management can feel like you are isolated, and if you show you are capable of doing more work they will just pile it on with no intention of moving you forward or increasing your pay by any meaningful amount. They will tell you that there are plans for you to keep you on the hook, but unless it benefits the company you won’t be promoted. Managers are a very close-knit group and if you rub someone the wrong way they all will hold grudges. They do not take care of their employees financially and are more worried about the bottom line and increasing revenue than investing in their workforce regardless of what they say internally. I’ve heard time and time again we invest in our employees and want to help them build lifelong careers with the organization, but I’ve rarely seen them take any action showing that unless it’s someone in a management position. Lots of micromanagement and metrics to hit, managers will focus on negatives if you screw up but don’t give any praise or insight to help you grow professionally. The positives are the co-workers are great, the 401K match is decent, health benefits are fair, and PTO is pretty good for the industry. There has been a tremendous amount of turnover from senior management all the way down to warehouse staff in the last 2 years, and all the extra work has to be picked up by the associates that are still employed. They are slow to hire people for positions to help with the workload. My area has the lowest labor to profit ratio in the country and we are severely understaffed for the volume of orders we receive. Most managers do not understand or are not capable of doing the job of the associates they are managing."
"Great company yet lack of adequate training"
"I've worked with ferguson for over a year now and within my time here I've noticed the difficulties working for this company. Unfortunately, there isn't enough opportunity given to those who would like to do more for the company. The company also refuses to take care of their employees, including the ones who've given their time and energy time and time again."
"Ferguson Enterprises was a fantastic company to work for. I worked with a great team and had great managers. I never felt that my work was not appreciated and would always recommend it to those who are looking for work or who are looking for quality service in a plumbing and appliance wholesaler."
"Great place to work; the people are always willing to help."
"I have worked at Ferguson Enterprises for almost 5 years and they are a strong company in plumbing, lighting, and appliances. Ferguson really focused on making the customer experience second to none."
"Great company and people to work with."
"This is a Great company to work for."
"I'm working for Ferguson for almost 2 years. I see it has many good projects and uses the latest tech stack. it has almost 30000 employees."
"I've been with Ferguson a while. I've seen the good and the bad and the ugly. The ugly has been sexual harassment, bullying from lower level management and a penchant of keeping employees on edge as to whether they will be employed the next day or not. The ugly is a culture of the good ole' boys, if you know the right person you can get promoted quickly and easily. Match that to a person that outperforms the freshly promoted associate in every aspect and you are left wondering. I'm not even referring to myself, these are observations made over a very long period of time. They require long hours and you are going to be working your butt off every second of the day. Management has eyes on you, this is a predominant "feature" in every location. It is a culture intended to put fear into the minds of those working there that their jobs are not guaranteed and yes you can and will be let go if they think you are slacking even in the slightest bit. The pay is decent for managers and can be excellent for outside sales reps, but it is definitely substandard at every other level. Inside sales, warehouse personnel, counter associates, truck drivers are not going to get anything near what they could somewhere else. The good stuff is the benefits. The longer you're there, the more hours you rack up for vacation hours. Ferguson gives vacation time, sick leave, personal leave and floating holidays in addition to 6 days paid normal holiday days. There are some great people working there with great personalities, There are also some incredibly miserable people working there that have the worst attitude and outlook on life you could ever possibly find anywhere. Those are the kind of people that can make it very undesirable to come to work every day. Ferguson is not good at giving you a life beyond work. The long hours and potential to be on call after work hours can equate to a diminished home life."
