"The only thing I didn't like was the outcome of the restructuring."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"No suggestions --Mannington is a great company to work for, and has remained profitable while other flooring manufacturers have gone through bankruptcy."

What do you like about working at Black & Veatch?
"BV can offer a steady paycheck. But not much else. There a lot of very knowledgeble and friendly people in the company. However, you probably won't find them in any positions of major influence. The company is very laid back, and they can be very flexible with people's schedules. This of course will depend entirely on who you work for. BV also has a stellar industry reputation (some of it undeserved) which will always help to build up someones resume."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Go work elsewhere. BV no longer has the right to consider itself an engineering company, since nearly 100% of it's design work is outsourced to third party vendors. Very little true engineering work is done internally anymore. It is now more of a project management company, although this will be denied by anyone and everyone working there. There are also very few middle aged engineers in the company. The age spectrum is either very young (20's/early 30's) or much older (over 50). The gray haired engineers are vested and riding it out until they retire, even though most are drastically underpaid. The younger engineers were hired because they're cheap, and the company still needs employees. But the more experienced and mid-career employees are often non-existant, because they've all gone to work for better companies. Once the gray haired employees finally retire, BV will have serious issues regarding it's overall performance, since they'll no longer have the expertise to carry the company forward. This company is an old boys click, through and through. Turnover is also quite high (at least higher than at most engineering companies) since many employees are often taking jobs at the company while they wait for something better to come along. If you're fresh out of school, or at least at the beginning of your career, BV is probably a very good company to work for. They will train you, and then you can quit for a better job at one of their better paying competitors."
What don't you like about working at Black & Veatch?
"The company is completely unwilling to invest in its employees, whether it's further education or industry certifications. For the most part, employees whom already have a college degree are expected to pay for any continuing education themselves. BV is primarily an engineering company (or at least they still think they are), but they don't provide any assistance with gaining a PE license. Management and leadership at the company is also abysmal. Engineers often don't make good managers, and many managers refuse to hire people more qualified than themselves. Additionally, much of the promoting and hiring within the company is entirely based on past professional and personal relationships, rather than being based on credentials and performance. Politics rule the day at this company. And if you're not a policitian, your options are limited. Nearly all employees are intiially hired on as contractors, and despite being told contract durations will only last around 6 months before being made permanent, many employees will see their contract status extended indefinitely"
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Go away!!!! BV has serious management issues, and only tends to either promote the wrong people, or only hire insiders connected to other senior level employees at previous companies. In other words, the old problems that existed in other companies in the past continue to resurface at BV. Much of BV management relies on bullying and intimidation. In other words, a blast from the past, like something out of the tv series Mad Men."

"I was a contractor, but I really liked the managers, as they equally respected the contractors and full-timers."

"The company was very heavy on contractors, and each position was unique, with a very broad structure in place."

"Nothing, it was a great experience. I felt the team was solid, with great management."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"They are a very good team of managers and supervisors who communicated very well within the team."

"The job I did gave me a sense of worth at the company. The employees are capable and cooperative."

"Be respectful of the high stress placed on management. The environment can be cut throat."

"The middle management operates in a culture of fear, creating a hostile working relationship."

"Provide support where currently lacking. Promote communication between the ranks."

"sometimes when working multiple tasks that came due at the same time would require 80+ hours in a week"

"Can't think of anything. Besides to many smokers. But they are fixing this."

"None. Management is doing a good job so far as I know."

"No support, management is just a title at SERCO.They just don't care"

"Learn to lead by example, take care of your people"

"Work was stable and secure, with highly intelligent client teams and good benefits."

"Avoid the operations side of Verizon Business. They still have not worked out how they will properly integrate all their separate towers."

"Due to big corporate indecision, there was no opportunity to move within the company. Shift work is not for everyone."

"Treat people the same way a small business would. Management needs to be much more upfront and honest with their employees about difficult business decisions."

"This company was the best I worked for. I enjoyed the fast pace of incoming work loads and the different customers we worked for."

"This company will give you a test on the software you claim to know. Be prepared to design at your interview."

"The direct supervisor I had was a younger person with very lazy work ethics and lack of knowledge for the type of work and would not take advice from those around. Very ubprofessional"

"higher management should pay attention to the abuse of company standards and company time by lower supervisor positions."

"high end projects. cutting edge technology. some innovative design ideas. But the management is nuts.It seems to be a fine line between genius and mental illness."

"avoid this company as an employer. They rarely show honesty"

"very small company with limited vision.employees over worked with no compensation.no training on anything needed to complete the projectemployee turn-around is huge.CEO is a lier. almost everything said is a lie."

"get organized, and stop lieing to the employees, and clients. CEO is nuts"

"the products are fun to use and I enjoy the design of consumer products."

"Elmer's has a few people that are very talented, but they do not get recognized."
What don't you like about working at Elmer's?
"Marketing runs the show and they are not very smart or experienced. The marketing group actually does merchandising, not marketing...and they get promoted. Also, Marketing runs the meetings and they are really bad a project management..... really, really bad."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Remove the dead weight in souring and marketing, allow the engineers to do engineering work."

"Compensation and benefits are quite good. Who doesn't like nearly free cable"

"Don't. Unless you want to be transformed into a lump, RUN AWAY!"

"It's dull, the inter-office politics are mind-numbingly stupid, and the company has been taken over by bean-counters."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Start focusing more on smart and agile engineering and less on how to save money by tracking every second each employee spends at the company. Not that it'll happen with the tax benefits being as they are."

"Only to make sure you understand the job expectations before you take a position."
What don't you like about working at Pratt & Whitney?
"After the company moved its main engineering function to Conn. local opportunities were limited."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"The management at Pratt and Whiney is excellent, I would only suggest that it put more effort into instrumentation engineering."
