"Not pleased with my experience"

What do you like about working at Tradition Energy?

"Above average healthcare benefits and a nice looking office. Office has a trading floor layout, which some people may find distracting."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would only accept the position if I was offered the job and had no other alternatives to make money. The salary and healthcare will get you by for 6 months, but do not stop looking for a better opportunity, because the president is only looking out for himself and nobody is considered valuable."

What don't you like about working at Tradition Energy?

"You find yourself in fierce competition with everyone on your team to the point where your own colleagues are trying to steal your leads and deals to keep their job. All of your hard work can be lost if they decide to fire you, as they keep any and all commission you earned during your time with the company. Poor management and bad attitudes made it nearly impossible to approach a manager with an issue. Unrealistic sales targets, which lead to many people losing their job (and owed commission). Micromanaged is an understatement. You must log every call you make, and submit each call log at the end of the day. Constantly under pressure to produce in a saturated market that takes time to develop relationships. Not a fun environment to spend your days."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"They need to be more open minded and they need to hire people that understand salesmanship."

What do you like about working at Tradition Energy?

"They had good healthcare benefits and a nice looking office."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"My honest piece of advice to anyone interviewing is, take the job if you cannot find anything else and need to make some money for six months while you search for your next job. Don't buy into the hype they create when they tell you the sky is the limit and you're going to make a ton of money. The president makes the money and you're his minion that lines his pockets with your hard work. You'll never see a dime."

What don't you like about working at Tradition Energy?

"My biggest issue with the company is that I got the impression from the very beginning that I was not valued and my job was on the line every day. I was told there are a million people that would love to take your seat in this economy. That didn't sit well with me. Also, I generated a lot of money for the company, but when I was let go for missing my sales target for three consecutive quarters, I was not compensated for any of the future commissions the company was collecting. The company is paid monthly by customers, and contracts can last up to 5 years. As you sell, you build a nice income (for the company, not yourself) and they can throw out all of your hard work and give your deals to the next guy to maintain once you're gone. I saw it happen to others during my time there, and then it happened to me. I felt like I was producing, but they seemed to think otherwise."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would outline realistic sales goals so my employees felt that they had a good chance of reaching those goals. I would also give a severance package to employees that worked to close a lot of business, but were let go or decided to pursue a different career path. Tradition keeps all of your commissions if you decide to leave, or if they fire you for whatever reason they feel is necessary."

What do you like about working at Tradition Energy?

"Good co-workers. Great health benefits. From the outside it seems like a professional company to be associated with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would avoid this company. It is not a good place to earn money as a sales person, or to learn the business of energy deregulation. I would consult with other employees at the company before accepting a position."

What don't you like about working at Tradition Energy?

"Senior management never interacted with general employees. Pay-cuts were made twice in 18 months despite increasing year over year revenue. Office management was very inconsistent and at times demeaning. Commission is paid out over the course of years, when you leave the company you don't get the remainder, meaning that you are never paid your full commission."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Compensate your employees for the work that they do. Hire more sales people to support staff. A 2 to 1 ratio of support staff to sales people means that each sales person has 3 salaries to pay with his revenue. This is unsustainable and probably the reason you were forced to make pay cuts and leave the majority of sales commission unpaid."
