Dresser-Rand began with a single steam pump created by Henry R. Worthington in the 1840s. By 1880, several other individuals and businesses, including Henry Worthington, Clark Brothers and Rand Drill were also developing engines and industrial machinery. This lead to many partnerships, acquisitions, mergers and name changes.

Today, Dresser-Rand owns 12 manufacturing plans and 40 service centers in more than seven countries and has a 172 year business history. They specialize in designing, selling and repairing upstream, down-stream and midstream equipment for the petrochemical, oil and gas industries. Houston, Texas is the location of their corporate headquarters.
