Working at Digilock in Petaluma, CA: 1 Employee Reviews

Director of Marketing

"I found Digilock lacks basic organizational structure and business know-how. The Owner/CEO has most employees report to him which makes for an inefficient workflow. He specializes in innovation but does employ essential business principles, specifically strategy, planning nor budgeting. Most people are confused about their roles; There are no deadlines, no project management schedules related to new technology or product launch. Self-sufficiency is key, however, you will shift direction by the day dependent on what the owner is inspired by, while parallel tracking the projects that will move the needle. The lack of long-term planning is affecting the company's ability to grow. I had real concerns about Digilock’s professionalism and culture development, and respect for employees, specifically racial equality, sexism, and boundary-less antagonism. Owner avoids challenge and conflict; He accepts a high performing salesperson although she has cornered teammates with disrespectful and unprofessional communication; Multiple employees have reported feeling bullied by her with no change management from Owner or HR. Owner does not invest in the growth of the company; no department has a visible operating budget. The VP has been there 17 years and has no other career experience which creates a culture of complacency and enables lack of business planning. Most people don't get to do the jobs they know how to do because the owner has determined his way is better, even though he has never held your position, or knows the technology with which you are working. The owner handled layoffs secretly. You come to work and will not be able to connect with a colleague, realizing they had been fired. The communication is poor across the organization. The upside is that you establish good working relationships with your co-workers because they share the same day-to-day as you and comical relief is an important part of surviving your time there."
