Working at DFW Int'l Airport in Dallas, TX: 5 Employee Reviews

DFW Int'l Airport Employee

"Pros - Starting pay is good when compared to other security positions in the DFW area. Good Benefits and Voluntary Options: health, dental, life insurance, tuition assistance, pre-paid legal, etc. Policies for accumulating and using vacation and sick time is average by industry standards. Retirement program options are good. Officers bid for three shifts, allowing a good balance between work, home or school. A very diverse group of co-workers. Adequate position to gain experience in security or time to get your education for a more rewarding career. A good position if you already have a retirement, but want to continue working for a few more years. However, most applicants should not see this as a long term career move. Cons - Senior officials act without any consideration to real employee or security needs. Most senior managers are arrogant, condescending and display a total disregard and disinterested attitude for subordinate’s ideas and concerns. They are rarely ever seen by security personnel outside of the office and they are mostly thought of as yes men for top executives. Shift supervision is rarely seen doing any security work, because some don’t know how to do the job, others say they’re too busy doing paperwork and special projects for management and still a couple of others are just lazy. There are a couple that really do care, but management prevents them from doing any good. Working conditions are deplorable as compared to other airport employees and management has made no efforts to try and improve them. Current duties do not address the real security problems at the airport. Would not recommend this job to anyone."

"Severe level of micro management, management team, as well as supervisors have little to no regard for employees. Orders are given without any input from officers, if an officer does bring up a concern they are told to go look elsewhere for another job. Lots of disgruntled officers caused by years of corrosive management. Very little respect or camaraderie amongst officers or supervision, disdain or hate would be more accurate descriptions. There is no career advancement hardly at all, many officers have applied for 50+ jobs within DFW Airport with no luck of getting out. Corruption runs rampant, most recently an investigation is under way for kickbacks within the Dps department that has caused some higher ups to be terminated or forced to retire. I honestly cannot recommend DFW as a good place to start a career, or work for that matter."
