The president of the organization, whom I report directly to, is concerned about doing the right thing over making money. "Disorganization of the entire company - I can't believe this company is still operating."

"Forget about what's right, just think about the bottom line and how you can help the company, not the client"

"Managers who can't manage people or projects. Total disonnection of what Directors/VPs think of products/projects/employees and actual reality. To say they view things with rose colored glasses is an understatement. Products that are not anyhing close to innovative, just poorly thrown together copies of other companies solutions."

"look back to how the company was managed before your time and strive to acheive the same"

"Too much travel."

"Keep seeking to be ahead of the curve. Continue to treat employees more than fairly."

"Most non-management employees are very intelligent and great people. The higher education market is easy to work within, they're accepting of less than stellar products and that's what you'll find at Datatel."

What don't you like about working at Datatel?

"Datatel has changed significantly over the past years- I would certainly no longer consider it a best place to work. Management, and VPs don't seem competent or caring about the majority of employees. It's all about the bottom line. The products that are in development are not good, full of bugs, and when compared to competitors pretty pathetic. But, they know they've got a captive audience of clients who won't spend the money right now to switch to a better non-legacy system."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Remember that employee satisfaction is important in addition to profitability- cutting perks, events, benefits, office space etc is not the way to keep good employees at your company."

"I like the helpful and professionalism of entire staff. They were excellent. I found the benefits great. I don't know about now though..."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Ask exactly what is expected of you. Minute by minute times, overtime, is your team understaffed by more than just you, make sure you truly feel your manager is trustworthy. Ask questions."

What don't you like about working at Datatel?

"I worked there before the original owner died, Russ Griffith. He built a fantastic company - personnel wise too - but unfortunately after his death, everything changed. The new CEO fired and laid people off -- via grouping everyone together and telling them to go via a room packed together with a bridge phone for remote employees! People that had been there for over 30 years! He never really said that they were being fired, but fired they were. Some of the finest minds in education disappeared in a short phone call. All they great benefits and rewards and management also ended. They restructured to just a typical corporate, no leniency company. I worked so many hours that I would stay till daybreak, go shower, come back!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Those that are left - remember when you began and why you stayed. Most of all, remember you may be the next corralled group that disappears."
