"It's a good line of work if you're able-bodied, white or Asian, and male. If you meet those qualifications - the only ones that really matter in this industry - you can use a few helpdesk positions as a stepping stone to a real career in IT. If you do not meet those qualifications, you're pretty much going to be stuck on helpdesk until you decide to leave IT - this is the case regardless of what degrees, certifications, or experience you have."
