"It is a perfect place to start. Either as a Masters, PhD or faculty/staff. There is not much room for growth, but the networking is very good to growth after you finish your work here. Also, very few academic/research institutes are so close to solving real world or practical problems as this one."

What do you like about working at City University of New York?

"We work on a lot of different, really cool projects with different government agencies and public organizations. It is my job to figure out how to put technology to work to solve those problems - what our capabilities are, what we SHOULD do, and how we should do it. Our projects have a clear real-world impact, and I have a lot of input and leeway to make them happen."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just because you don't have a computer science degree does not mean you can't get the job - the great thing about my department is that we value skills and knowledge a lot more than words on a page. Just because someone lists a skill on their resume does not mean they know it well enough to use at work, and just because they don't have a computer science degree certainly does not mean they are automatically disregarded."

What don't you like about working at City University of New York?

"Very limited budget, older hardware, and because I typically work alone with no other technical departments or assistance, I only have the ability to take on a few, typically small, projects at a time. No room for advancement."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Expand our services to more university campuses and departments; contact more people in academia and government to inform them of our capabilities. Get more grant money and buy new equipment!"
