"The Graduate Student assistant program at California State University, Fullerton is a paid position for graduate students who are interested in assisting a professor through their teaching course. I would say that it is a must for a graduate students who is looking for a future in teaching at a higher level. It is the best way to get your foot in the door as the position offers great mentorship from the faculty/professor you are working for. I assisted my professor with grading papers, giving feedback of student work, and I learned my way through the online teaching platforms this year due to all classes going online from the pandemic. My professor gave me meticulous feedback in ways to grade student work and together, we figured out ways to make the online class more impactful. It's very difficult to get into the education field so if you are looking to do that in the future, you should ask your current professors if there are any GA positions open for you. The work can range from 3-10 hours a week, depending on your professor's needs. My experience was nothing but positive and I walk away with a lot of experience and knowledge in the field."
"It was overall a good experience."
"I have worked as a Graduate research assistant for more than a year gained the required communication skills, learned how to be a team player"
"Working for CSUF has been an absolute pressure. It does get stressful at times, but that's what makes the job more important. While working in the Registration department, it makes you nervous because you don't know what to expect. Once you get the hang of it though it is like second nature. The environment is nice, and the commute isn't so bad. The work itself isn't stressful because there are many other staff members there that will help you along the way. It mostly revolves around helping students with records, classes, name changes, send out emails, and providing the best customer service possible. Of course, with every job, there will be mean customers that will go out of their way to make your life miserable. But with being able to handle the situation, it shows you are mature and can accomplish many things. Overall, a very solid workplace."
