California State University, Chico, commonly known as Chico State, is the second oldest CSU campus in California, founded in 1887. Just 90 miles north of Sacramento Chico State sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills. The university maintains a main campus of 119 acres, an 800-acre University Farm and 2,330 acres of ecological reserves. The most popular majors of the university's 15,920 students are business administration, psychology, liberal arts and construction management.

Chico State is known for its environmentally protective practices and mindset, earning the highest score on The Princeton Review's Green Honor Roll. Accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools, Chico State operates the oldest computer science department in the CSU system.
