"Be cautious. It's a good group of people, but you'll need a thick skin to absorb the panic mentality currently prevailing due to the downturn in economic performance and increased competition from other media sources."
What don't you like about working at Colorado Community Newspapers?
"Not a very forward-thinking company. Senior corporate management is very caught up on how newspapers used to work back in the glory days and not supportive of making substantive changes to position company to compete in an evolving world. The few capable people in leadership positions are often quashed by the majority preferring the status quo.Poorly trained, unmotivated sales force. So-so editorial staff. Very few individuals go above and beyond."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Embrace emerging technology and changes in the media delivery model. Incorporate elements of social media into news gathering and adopt a feature-rich delivery vehicle to provide local content when and where people request it."
