"I am truly happy when I can make an intricate part from a blank slab of material."

CNC Machinist at Weatherford International
in Big Spring, TX

"I love the fact of creating precision parts in a massive amount. I hate that the machine does all the work and reduces the fun. It's more fun and creative to work on the manual machines (lathes, mills). The most interesting part around the CNC's is the setup of a new part. But over all I found the job pretty interesting."

"What I love about machining. I am really good with numbers, I can see the parts being made in my head. I find that machining is something I know and am comfortable with, I know there is always a sense of pressure to get parts made and out, and correctly, which I find exciting to myself, able to lose myself in my work. Ironically, my love for machining goes with all I could say a "hatred" for it. while waiting on materials, tooling, blueprints, etc. or having programming issues to correct."

"Is hard for me to find something I hate about my job position, I really enjoyed going to work every day and get challenged by the complexity of some of the parts I had to make, but if I have to choose something it will be not to do the project right the 1st time."

"Since the time I took a tour of my high school in grade school, I have never seen a machine shop until that tour. From that day forward I have worked and learned everything that was needed to keep a title as a Machinist. Then over the years never turned down any position within the trade. This kept my craving of knowledge and to better myself very rewarding, in turn has brought myself to a level of confidence to complete any task that I am given."

"Editing programs and cutting important parts that will be used for Boeing and our US Military. One major problem I have is the carbon fiber dust that irritates my skin. The workplace is very dirty and coworkers do not have the same passion as I do when keeping the environment safe and clean."

"I love machining. Its got the fulfillment of contracting except on a larger scale. Parts that get machined are used everyday for the things that people count on. Making something from scratch with metal has a reward that nothing else can have."
