"Excellent work / life balance flexible work from home availability. Salary needs to keep with market and inflation, and probably company will eventually come to that but for the moment, that area needs improvement. Very professional and respectful culture where everybody is included."
"I have been with the company for over twenty years and have stayed due to the innovative culture, my belief in the technology and flexibility in work environment. While this flexibility has come more to the forefront since the pandemic, Ciena has focused on this work-life balance and it shows in the people."
"Good company and nice benefits. Recently had many layoffs ...otherwise a very good company ..."
"We (World Wide Packets) were acquired by Ciena in 2008 and my tenure with Ciena was very enjoyable. Trying to convince management to embrace previously untapped markets was Challenging."
"I have worked at Ciena for over 10 years. They have great cutting edge technology and lead their industry."
"Bad in terms of career growth plus limited opportunities."
"I have been with Ciena for the last 10 years and it was a great experience both personally and professionally. We had some great engineers in our team and everyday we had some opportunity to learn something. We had great freedom and respect from the management , it was huge for our team and helped us to achieve our goals. Management's focus on transparency and communication was the key for our success."
"Great. Amazing. Awesome"
"Not sure why I got hired for an unwarranted management of offshores. My profile has been of technical expertise, prior to Ciena, with industry standard experience. The offshore model works for corporate who know how to get quality product from offshores. It does not work for IT Hubs, who give entire work to offshores, hoping just to collect the bonus from shoddy fast IT solutions, encouraging a quacky IT culture. Investing in latest technologies is spending company's money, investing in offshores is spending company's money. Building quality IT internally, if with/without superior management of offshores is giving back to the company. Think about it. IT is not about legacy managers, but about quality technological solutions."
"IT environment is definitely challenging, in the wrong ways. Only way up is to be a manager or a director. Ratings are based on manager favoritism, grapevines, and the adaptation to poor quality IT solutions by offshores who have absolutely no clue what they are doing. This is because they are given full authority, to their own designs, and to get the least priced ASAP. Managers who have been long with Ciena, think they own the place, and do not maintain basic standards of professionalism. So if you enjoy this type of unique challenge, right. Ciena is the place for you. Get that PMP soon. Getting easy IT money by letting the company go down the drain by poor IT solutions, can definitely be a fun place to work, sure."
"I question their direction for the future."
"I find Ciena a great company to work for however lower level management is the weak link in the chain. Ciena is always ahead of the curve in technology. I really like the people that I worked with. I think that lower level management has no checks and balance system to hold them accountable."
"One major factor is that most of the good work is sent offshore, hence meager chance of any quality addition to technical skills. The technical teams stand disconnected. The offshore teams have more control, and less tendency to share work with those internal to Ciena. Some want to give quality work than battle such vibes, and Ciena fails to be a place for such."
"Most of the quality work is offshored. It's sad that internal employees are wasted for the specialized skills bought from outside, and these offshored resources are quite low by experience. There is also bad vibes due to Offshores trying to keep their work. Ciena is not a place, for one who is interested in enhancing technical skills. It's better for someone who wants to be legacy owner and enjoy a light job."
"It was a great opportunity working for Ciena Corporation. Working in their technology environment deepened my knowledge of emerging technologies. Working for a company where the employees enjoyed starting and finishing projects made me feel that other employees were happy to be working for a great corporation as well."
