Central Connecticut State University began as the New Britain Normal School in 1849 in New Britain, Connecticut. In 1933, the school underwent a name change and became the Teachers College of Connecticut. Twenty-six years later, in 1959, the school changed its name once again to become the Central Connecticut State College. Based on the school’s continuous development over the years, it officially became the Central Connecticut State University in 1983.
