Stop following 'the book' and be scared of 'corporate' all the time and make decisions that make sense, not just those that you think will make 'corporate' happy so you can keep your job. At the same time, don't be lazy and use loopholes to get what you want while avoiding corporate scrutiny...instead, find proof of your reasoning behind your decisions to bridge the disjunction between corporate and management.
I would say that they should be more considerate when someone close to you is sick with cancer and terminal. They should allow you time to help that family member.
