What do you like about working at Carleton University?
"Some of the people really wanted to make a difference in the lives of Carleton's students."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Make sure you investigate the working atmosphere of the area within Carleton you will be working before you accept any position at the university. Some departments are almost dead concerning their activity, whereas there exists the complete and extreme opposite at some departments like the one where I worked."
What don't you like about working at Carleton University?
"Work load for my position was deamed appropriate for 3 people but I was the only person doing the duties. The unions the cover the university's employees are good in one sense because they help provide stability, good wages, great benefits, and support workers in crisis. The problem with the union is that people who have more tenure get to move upward in their responsibilities and titles solely based on the number of years they have worked at the university rather than the quality and merit of their work and attitude."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Stop making changes to the university's organizational structure that really don't have any real effect. Realigning what departments belong to which faculty and moving departments to different offices means very little if the people working at the university are not happy in their positions. When management solicits the opinions and views of employees for various projects, the intent should be to amalgamate the collected data and act of the information; collecting information from employees simply for the sake of giving an appearance of inclusion in the university's dierction, governance, and future is more damaging than had management not bothering asking the opinions of employees in the first place."
