Boston Market was established in 1985 as Boston Chicken. The original store was in Newton, Massachusetts. In 1993, Boston Chicken went public and, in 1995, changed its name to Boston Market. In 1998, they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and reorganized, emerging to successfully be purchased by McDonalds in 2000. Since then, they were purchased by Sun Capital Partners in 2007.

Currently, there are over 490 franchised Boston Market stores in the United States. The corporate headquarters are located in Golden, Colorado.

Boston Market is a casual dining restaurant chain that specializes in chicken, turkey, meatloaf and brisket in addition to fine quality side dishes. In addition to dine-in and take-out meals, they also offer catering services.

Boston Market culture centers on customer service and an enjoyable work environment. Franchise owners are encouraged to interact and engage with customers, doing things like walking through the dining room, talking to and smiling at customers and making them feel welcome. Benefits begin the first full month after active employment, with the exception of disability insurance, which begins after 90 days of continuous employment.
