What do you like about working at Books-A-Million?

"I love working with books, seeing what's new, what sells, and how it's marketed, as well as the thrill of helping a customer find that book they couldn't recall or recommending new books for interested readers. I specialized in science fiction and fantasy for all ages."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be sure you love books, be sure you can deal with angry or frustrated people. It's retail. If you don't love retail, don't bother to apply."

What don't you like about working at Books-A-Million?

"The hours were hard, there were a lot of rude folk about, and since we were expected to do cleaning as well, we often ended up staying very late at night."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be as aware as possible of the schedule you're setting for your staff. Working til 2am, with a 6am meeting the next day, is hard. Try to make your staff as aware as possible of upcoming events they would need to prepare for, and keep an eye on their interactions with each other."
