What do you like about working at BET Networks?
"The people, and maybe the notoriety. There's strong name recognition for BET, but the reactions range from enthusiasm to incredulity - either way a great setup for a discussion on what the company is really like and what the job entails."
What don't you like about working at BET Networks?
"BET doesn't live up to its potential. Put bluntly, management lacks adequate vision and seems content to ape MTV by producing lesser copies of everything MTV does."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"BET is (still) iconic for black people in America - and beyond. Unoriginal reality programming that caters to the lowest common denominator (entertainment at the spectacle of the disarray of others' lives) constitutes the bulk of the channel's content, and the web site is largely constrained to promote that. In fact, the web site has a number of much more compelling properties - Pamela on Politics, Playa Hater, the entire News department; perhaps finding ways to convert those into content for television will turn BET into an information and entertainment destination that reflects the diverse interests of black people of all ages and welcomes all comers to share the black experience. BET should be a voice that all listen to and are edified by, rather than a destination to point, laugh, mock and/or objectify."
"A positive company with indirectly negative results on their target demographic. Disappointing."
What do you like about working at BET Networks?
"It was a media-based company. I enjoy music very much as a guitarist / songwriter, but otherwise not interested in hip-hop culture (despite much exposure). The team I worked with directly was an excellent resource -- however, most have left the company since I worked there."
What don't you like about working at BET Networks?
"The content was somewhat not positive. I believe the company's direction would have better served its audience by portraying a more positive image of black america."
